About Small Bites Creator
Sheena Glover
Sheena Glover’s life has been full of challenges, but she has overcome them all with resilience and determination. From raising her first niece at the age of nine to being the first in her family to graduate high school to surviving domestic violence to becoming the fourth black female in the history of her fire department, Sheena’s passion for making a difference in the lives of others is evident in everything she does.
Sheena created the Small Bites program in response to losing two close fire friends to suicide.
Small Bites is a tactical, step-by-step approach to addressing the well-being of the first responder through the application of Community Risk Reduction principles that teach individuals how to prepare for, respond to, and recover from crisis situations in a way that minimizes negative impacts and maximizes positive outcomes.
Small Bites is centered on the question of how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time…in SMALL BITES. The Small Bites program demonstrates how to address difficult/controversial conversation topics such as mental health and suicide by dissecting and breaking down information into small, palatable pieces that are easy to digest. The Small Bites program is 100% scalable, the key is identifying the problem and breaking it down into manageable pieces - working on each piece individually.
Throughout her career, she has worked diligently addressing firefighter well-being through pushes for transparent communication, education, and strategic risk reduction. She has worked hard curating, collaborating, and successfully implementing a diversity and inclusion program within her department.
As a 15-year fire veteran in Omaha, NE with over 22 years of experience in Emergency Medical Services, Sheena offers a unique perspective on the fire service as the only Black female and the fourth in the department’s history. Sheena is a Fire Captain, Paramedic, certified Law Enforcement Officer, Fire Investigation Technician, Hazardous Materials Technician, EMS/CPR/Fire Instructor, and Peer Support Member. Captain Glover holds degrees in Fire Science and EMS and is currently working on her capstone to finish the National Fire Academy’s Managing Officer’s Program while pursuing a Master of Organizational Leadership.
Captain Glover’s dedication to her work is truly inspiring. Her passion for making a difference in the lives of others is evident in everything she does, and there is no doubt that she will continue to make a positive impact on her community for many years to come.
